I am the Bead Hunter....and today the hunt was productive.
First a little background info....I have a special love affair with transit tokens. Odd, especially considering I grew up in a place without any public transportation. Then again, maybe this is why I am so enamored with transportation artifacts, like tokens. But I digress.
Today, I found a small trinket box at an antique mall with a dozen CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) fare tokens in it. Score! I purchased a few, and like all amazing finds, will probably sit on the edge of my workbench until it screams to me, "Make me into this!"
I also came across two vintage necklaces with really interesting beads. I am going to disassemble the necklaces, clean the beads and get them ready for my Etsy shop. I hope you like teal blue - hint ~ hint.
I know autumn is just beginning, but as a designer I like knowing what the hot colors of the coming seasons are going to be. Twice a year Pantone announces the hot color trends of Spring and Fall...and the world listens! This spring we can look forward to:
Dusk Blue - a mellow dusty medium blue.
Tender Shoots - a vivid peridot green.
Lemon Zest - a bold saturated yellow.
Linen - a warm peachy beige.
Poppy Red - a vibrant red.
Emerald - a true emerald green.
Grayed Jade - a soft dusty green.
African Violet - a dark lavender.
Monaco Blue - a rich navy blue.
Nectarine - a juicy pale orange.
Dutch Tulip Beads will be listing this spring's hottest colors in a variety of eye-catching sparkling crystals next week! Get ready to be inspired!
This was a short hunt. Really.
I quickly found exactly what I was looking for. An open backed bezel - to allow the stone to really glow - with two connector loops and an elegant bezel wire to secure the stone. Having the two loops gives a lot of design options. I also like that the bezel is available in silver and gold.
Stay tuned for completed designs using a RED cabochon and a GOLD bezel.......ho-ho-ho!
It's no secret. I love curves. Round and flowing curves. So, it shouldn't surprise anyone that when I found these oval cabochons my heart skipped a beat.
The depth of color in these handmade glass cabs are truly amazing! Each one has its own fingerprint, if you will. The soft white swirls contained in each stone is unique. Perfect.
I don't have a lot of experience designing with cabochons. But, I do know that I need to find a setting to place the stone in. Let the hunt begin!
